Q. How to make the signals work on a shared line to a single station with a switch?
A. The signal system works in Transport Giant, however there is an issue when
the train in the station has proceeded to the end of the station, finished
unloading and turns around (...and reloads as required), that causes the
signals to release a waiting inbound train in to the switch in front of a
station resulting in a deadlock. This can also occur if a shorter train enters
a station as it has to proceed to the far end to unload and turn around before
leaving but the safety distance between trains value in the config file causes
the signal to release the waiting inbound train in to the switch before the
train in the station has stopped at the end of the platform and turns around.
It is that time that the train reaches the end of the platform, unloads and
then turns around that causes the signals to release the inbound waiting train
and results in the deadlock in the switch as the station signal is blocking the
train from entering the now reoccupied station. A train that turns around in a
station causes the signals to release and any waiting train can then proceed in
to the switch. Removing the signals from the station with the delete track
trick only causes the trains to crash in the switch and is not a viable work
around. The best method is to build a loop around the back of the station so
that the train does not have to turn around in the station, however this is not
always possible depending on space limitations. There are other methods
discussed in forums that include bypass tracks for the outgoing traffic,
however the purpose is to delay the inbound traffic entering the station switch
by including a longer lead in track and a largely spaced blocking signal
distance to delay the train's approach long enough for the unloaded train to
reach the end of the platform, unload and turn around (...and reload as
required), such as:
