Storm of War: Battle of Britain Review
By Brian Egan |
The successor to Oleg Maddox's unrivaled World War II flight sim IL-2 Sturmovik, Storm of War's been in development since 2006, and it looks like the game may finally be rolling through beta.
From the screenshots and videos released thus far, this game looks like it will be amazing when it finally comes out. The dusk lit cockpit-frame shadows realistically crawling the instrumentation during a turn. The Stuka arrowing toward a freight ship, nose to the sea, detaching its payload before pulling up. The grid-windowed under-cockpit of a Junkers Ju 88 bomber cruising some massively row-housed municipality. The stunning house-by-house detail poured into city quadrants, including a shot of a German plane rising past what looks like Dover Castle. The cloud-shot sky teeming with planes in what promises to be the most authentic by-the-numbers simulation of aerial combat yet.
