SpongeBob SquarePants Typing (2004) Review
By Leandro Herena
Kids, 7+, will love learning to type the SpongeBob way with this fantastic CD by The Learning Company.
SpongeBob and Patrick have entered the Bikini Bottom Typing Tournament. First they must sharpen their keyboarding skills. Kids begin with a lesson in ergonomics and then move on to Round 1 and the home row.
Players begin with the home keys and SpongeBob explains finger placement. There are also hands on a keyboard at the bottom of the screen for reference. As kids progress new keys are added including punctuation, upper case and numbers. After students master all lessons they can work on improving speed and accuracy.
When students complete lessons they received feedback on typing speed, WPM, and accuracy, including adjusted WPM. Upon completion of a quiz the program will rewards players with a fun game and students receive certificates when they complete rounds. The program will increase in difficulty only when students have mastered lessons.
Kids can also choose Glove World to play fun typing games. Players can play music by typing keys that pop up or move Patrick around a maze by typing the correct letters. There is also a snail race and boat racing game for practice and fun. Each game has 3 levels of difficutlty.
In the practice area students can type short stories and poems on topics only SpongeBob himself could create. Topics include Sea Poems, Salty Sea Tales, The Sponge Files and more.
This program is very entertaining with the zany characters from Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants. It is also packed with solid lessons, quizzes and tests to ensure kids are learning keyboarding as they play.
