Ominous Horizons: A Paladin's Calling Review
By Julio Estrada
Utilizing the Genesis 3-D engine, Ominous Horizons: A Paladin's Calling is a first-person shooter that features more than ten monsters and a plot to overcome an evil plan instigated by none other than Satan himself. As the avatar, a lone paladin on the side of the saints, you must find text, hidden throughout the world by Satan's minions, in order to allow the Bible to be written and Western Civilization to evolve.
On your journey, you'll encounter numerous caves and catacombs, Stonehenge, Mayan temples, and the underworld, with each location featuring multiple levels, as well as button and lever puzzles. Minions include Black Knights, scorpions, ninja assassins, and demon dragons that roam the levels utilizing unique AI patterns. The Paladin's arsenal includes a crossbow and the Sword of the Spirit, which fires illuminated projectiles. Health is replenished with biblical text and scriptures.
In keeping with the bible-based content, Ominous Horizons: A Paladin's Calling brings a non-violent approach to the genre, with the essence of monsters dispersed and returned to the underworld rather than eliminated by violent death.
