LEGO Rock Raiders Review

By Chris Commodore |

Poor rock raiders. While their other LEGO cousins are busy living in big houses, driving in yachts, and taking rides on plastic trains while smelling polyurethane flowers, they're eternally struggling to exist, always looking for that next piece of ore, the bigger, better energy crystal. This time around, they've entered into an asteroid field hiding a wormhole -- sending them into a distant galaxy with a damaged ship. The only solution is to explore an alien world in search of the precious crystals that they need to get back home. Like most strategy games, the gameplay is mission based, which means that you'll be thrust into a variety of situations throughout your adventures, everything from rescuing a lost crew member to finding your base, which has been hidden behind fallen rubble. If you're looking for battles, you aren't going to find it here. This is all about the building, which isn't that surprising, considering the license involved. But any of you hoping for a block-based Command & Conquer will be sorely dissapointed.

You begin every mission with a tool store that you can use to transport raiders to the surface, and construct power pads and the other buildings you'll need to beat a specific mission. You've got an unlimited supply of rock raiders, but as you begin to train specific units, you'll want to keep the general foot traffic to a minimum. It'll help you find your important units, and on levels with limited oxygen, it will also help you avoid needless consumption. Though you can name your trained raiders, you can't call them with a hotkey or a menu, which means that you'll be stuck clicking around until you find the one unit you're looking for. In fact, you quickly learn that even the units are unimportant, as you can always re-train them if necessary in a mission. You actually don't control your units directly -- rather, you give them suggestions, and hope that they'll actually go through with your commands. If you'd like a set of walls drilled, for instance, you simply select them, and someone will come and begin drilling. It takes out the micro-management, but adds a certain frustration factor, particularly when you're trying to get a unit to do something specific and it decides to disobey you completely.

Once you've transported your units to the surface, you'll need to immediately begin drilling walls. Only certain walls are drillable, though as you gain skills and vehicles, you'll gain access to tools that will help you take on the denser walls in your way. Your units will automatically pick up ore and crystals and bring them back to the tool store, or use them to build a structure. You'll have to lay down a power pad first, then your buildings, but the odd thing about the process is that you won't actually be able to specify the direction of your building in relation to the pad. Though it sounds superficial, I've actually been trapped in missions when I constructed a power station, only to have it fail to provide power because the power pads were mysteriously not connected correctly. The designers meant the process to be simple, but in fact it ends up turning the whole process into an annoying game of guesswork -- one which unfortunately, you'll find yourself losing more often than not.

As you train your workers they'll gain extra abilities such as explosive or piloting skills, which are key to beating a level. If a raider becomes too damaged, they'll automatically be transported back to HQ, which is a nice way of saying bye-bye to your skilled player for good. There's an easy solution -- transport them to HQ manually before they get too damaged, and you can transport them back a second later at full health. It's a little ridiculous, but you'll be doing it quite a lot in later levels, especially when their frustrating AI causes them to continually dig under falling rocks. Rock raiders, it seems, are workaholics, and worse still, nihilistic. If you don't watch them carefully, they'll find some way to off themselves quicker than you can say "where's the plastic?"

Like most strategy games, you'll need to build specific sets of buildings and upgrade them in order to gain access to special vehicles and structures. Rock Raiders refines this process into its core elements, and in the process, loses any piece of entertainment value that was left in the process. Many units do little other than to provide access to vehicle X, and worse still, most missions are beaten by constructing a specific structure to do an incredible simple task. A search and rescue mission, for instance, has you constructing, a support station to provide oxygen to the area, a geological center, and a full set of upgrades in order to gain access to one vehicle that you'll need to find a lost raider in a cave. Most of the levels are 90% construction for 10% action, and once you've got over the nice look and feel of the game, you'll quickly realize how horribly wrong that ratio really is. You'll be spending a lot of time waiting for your raiders to bring the right amount of ore and crystals to build your next unit, just so you can bring more ore to build the next unit, and so on. When the action does come (which in Rock Raiders, is in the form of monsters), it's a matter of making sure that some of your units have weapons in their inventory, and pressing the "action stations" button. That's it. The AI takes care of itself, the monster leaves, and you're... back to drilling. Maybe you'll have a vehicle to help you, maybe you'll have some dynamite, but in the end, all roads lead back to drilling, and worse yet, walking those chunks of rock back to your base.

Kids will definitely get a kick out of seeing their favorite Rock Raider vehicles and buildings in a computer game, but they won't get much mileage out of them. In fact, you rarely get to spend much time with your vehicles. That's really the problem with the entire game -- everything is hidden behind a display case, promising you action and adventure with interesting options, vehicles, and characters, but never delivering anything when it comes down to gameplay. The AI takes care of the beasties with a click of a button, and the only thing you'll have to ever worry about in terms of beating a mission is whether or not you can get the ore to your base fast enough. And some of the ideas just don't seem fleshed out, like the sandwich concept. You have to keep track of how hungry your raiders are, and get them to eat when necessary, but honestly, it never seems to impact how they actually work in any way. And the one saving grace, the speed feature that would speed up the more boring aspects of gameplay, was under the spell of a funky bug that would undo any speed changes in the option screen.

Visually the game is pure LEGO, from the opening movies to the little blocky feet of the characters that wander around endlessly building, eternally digging. It's a tough job to be a Rock Raider, let me tell you. The textures are repeated fairly often, but have a nice, clean look. It's the buildings that will really charm you, though. The animations of the characters and buildings are smooth and deliver what counts. When you construct a new building, it pieces itself together LEGO-style in a nice sparkly way, and when the rock raiders sweep, dig, drill and drive, it's exactly as you'd expect animated hunks of plastic to look. If plastic was supernaturally animated to perform excavation-type tasks, that is. The sounds, though simple, are never dull, and the things that matter are right on the mark, like the crunching sounds of rocks rumbling and tumbling.

The LEGO charm is thick in Rock Raiders, but it's not even near enough to make it worth playing through this macro-management clunker. Kids may be enchanted by the clickability of the LEGO world, but anyone else will find themselves wishing for more.

                                 A Walkthrough/Guide by rockraider_leader

Hello. Welcome to my first PC game guide, Lego Rock Raiders

In this guide, you will learn how to do every single level in LRR. (From now
on I
will refer to Lego Rock Raiders as LRR)

A FAQ may be added if I get asked the same questions enough.

Also, I will show you a few things that you may or may not have known before
and a few
tricks that will help you.

    1. Level Walkthroughs

    2. Tips and Tricks

    3. Walkthrough Info/Legal Stuff

Level Info

At the begining of every level you will find some stats that look like this:

Air Mission: (Yes or no)
Type of Mission:
Fun level:
# of Energy Crystals (ECs) to collect:

                       ~1. Level Walkthroughs~

    1. The training missions

If you need help with the training missions, then you should not be playing
this game at all.

    2. Real missions.

2a. Driller Night
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Super Easy
Type of mission: First Mission
Fun Level: 3/10
# of ECs to collect: 5
Ok, so this obviously is the first mission. Rather simple. You start with 3
Rock Raiders, and you need to get to another cavern and collect 5 EC's. There
is only one (1) drillable wall in the cavern, so drill it. Now for getting to
the cavern.
The walls run on a pattern. Drill up, and when you can't, drill left, and when
you can't, drill up, and so on until you find the Tool Store. Once you are,
drill almost any wall and you'll find one (1) or two (2) EC's inside.
In a few minutes, you'll have collected five (5) EC's. Mission Complete!

2b. The Path To Power
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Pretty Easy
Type of mission: Build a Power Station
Fun Level: 4/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirement , but I recommend 3 or 4

As the mission suggests, you need to build a Power Station. First off, as soon
as you teleport down your Rock Raiders, re-enforce all the Hard Rock, you
don't need to have your Rock Raiders getting shield damage already.
Once this has been complete, drill the walls close to your base to find the
EC's and ore needed. Then, build a Power Station. You learned how in the
training missions, so I'm not going to tell you how.

(Note: When you first make a Power Path, Chief says to build a Power Sattion,
which is impossible considering you haven't even built a Teleport Pad yet.)

2c. Rubble Trouble
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Pretty Easy
Type of mission: Energy Crystal Collection
Fun Level: 3/10
# of ECs to collect: 5

Majority of the missions will be EC collection, so get used to this kind of
mission fast. Otherwise you won't do so well...

This mission is almost the same as Driller Night. Except that you don't have
to find HQ. Not that I don't like that sort of mission, in fact, that is one
of the best types there are. Anyways, this is pretty simple, and I did it in
about 7 minutes.
Re-enforce all Hard Rock walls you see BEFORE you start drilling. Then, drill
the walls that are east of you Tool Store. You will find a caven...and some
EC's. Kepp drilling around in the newly-found cavern and in no time you will
have found them.
In my spare time (while I am waiting for the EC's to come), I build Power
Paths and a Teleport Pad. You don't have to, but that is just something I do
to use up the spare Ore and it keeps me from gettoing bored.
I guess you could use the method I mention below in Section 2, but that is up
to you.

2d. A Breath Of Fresh Air
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Fairly Easy, may take a few times to to, though
Type of mission: Build a Support Station
Fun Level: 2/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirement , but I recommend 8 or 9.

Well, this is a training mission on building Support Stations QUICKLY. When I
first player this, I failed this one over and over and over. I STILL fail it,
often. It is not all that hard, it is the time frame that you are given that
makes this level seem impossible.
But I am here to tell you how, so...

You may not finish on time, even with my help. It's all about how fast you can
go, and how good you are at memorizing where the game puts the ECs for this
mission, as they are not randomly placed, as one might think with a game like

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, and immediatly drill the walls that are the closest
to your base. And slowly move outwards. I did this mission in 24 minutes. Make
sure to put building buildings as your top priority in the 'Priorities' menu.
It isn't that hard, but if you have never done an air mission before, you may
find the pressure to finish it in time a bit overwelming. Try to make a base
with only 1 or 2 power paths, as to conserve Ore. There really isn't much that
can go wrong...

2e. It's A Hold Up
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of mission: Energy Crystal Collection
Fun Level: None
# of ECs to collect: 5...again

These missions are becoming a bore. This one is the most ANNOYING mission
EVER. It cernatinly is a hold up, from doing better missions. This mission, if
it was named appropriately, should be called Landslide-Land.

Unfortunatly, I know this mission by heart, so here goes...

Re-enforce all the Hard Rock in the cavern you first arrive in. Bring down as
many Rock Raiders you deem approprite (you start with 5 that have
automatically been sent down. They are all lined up in rows.). Drill the walls
east of your Tool Store and you will come across a narrow cavern.
This is where it gets annoying. Quickly get all your Rock Raiders to re-
enforce all the Hard Rock walls, or your Rock Raiders will get killed very
soon. Don't blow up any Hard Rock, it's not worth wasting your time and/or
your Rock Raiders' lives. You'll find the EC's soon enough.
Just re-enfoce all the Hard Rock walls you find, and you'll be fine. Just
annoyed that you HAD to do that...

2f. Explosive Action
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of mission: Find a Lost Rock Raider/Vehicle
Fun Level: 10/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirment

Finally, some fun! I have put a twist on this game, and I can get almost an
hour out of it. The mission objective is very simple. Find a Small Digger that
is in your eyesite as soon as you start. But the challenge here is to get it
back to base by blowing up Hard Rock. Not much of a challenge, but it gets
Since this is not an air mission, teleport down as many Rock Raiders as you
can. Lego Media decided to be nice this time, and has provided 4 pieces of ore
in a pile of rubble just north of your base. Drill the Energy Crystal and Ore
seams next, as they are taking up space.
You will have to build your buildings carefully, or you won't be able to bring
the Small Digger into your base. I suggest you build you Teleport Pad South of
your base. Just build a Power Path behind your Tool Store, and place a
Teleport Pad next to it.
You will need to find more materials, so drill about and you will find what
you need. Build a Power Station just above your Teleport Pad, and a Support
Station just above it. If you come across Hard Rock, re-enforce it. Upgrade
your Support Station to Level 2, and upgrade your Tool Store to Level 2 as
You will then need to find the cavern that contains the Small Digger. Very
easy. Look left of your Tool Store. You will see it. Now just find the Hard
Rock that is between you and the Small Digger. (Go up, then right.) Get it
blown up, and then get someone in that thing.
If you want to finish the mission now, simply drive it over to the base. But
what I usually do is drill Dirt and Loose Rock Walls to find more EC's, and
then I build a Ore Refinery (Don't ask why, I just do...) nearby your base.
You will have to look around for a good location, but I usually put it
directly north of my Support Station.
If you have drilled all the walls that are close to your base, you will have
no problem finding a good location. I also build an Upgrade Station. But you
don't have to. It is not worth blowing up any Hard Rock except for what I said
earlier. There really is no point. When you have had enough, just bring that
Small Digger into your base, and the mission is done.

2g. Search n' Rescue
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of mission: Find a Lost Rock Raider/Vehicle
Fun Level: 9/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirment

This mission, at first glance, looks like a mirrorage of Explosive Action. But
it isn't. Instead, you have to find a lost Rock Raider. This mission has way
too many EC's in it, and almost every wall you drill will contain one. Ore is
harder to gather than the EC's, so there is a bit of a change here.
First, bring down as many Rock Raiders as you can (as this isn't an air
mission), and build up a base till you have a Support Station. (You are stuck
on an island, so I don't need to tell you exactly where to drill) Upgrade you
Teleport Pad and Support Station to Level 2, and train a pilot if you haven't
Bring down a Tunnel Scout, and get a Rock Raider in there. The challenge now
is to find the correct spot to look. Since I'm nice, I'll tell you where to
look. xD As soon as you leave the island, go left. Go left again. Then keep
going straight and you'll travel for a bit. Then, you will see an island.
A message will come up saying that you are getting closer. Land, and get your
Rock Raider out. Then, drill the Dirt wall to your right, and you will
discover a new cavern. Using the middle of the new caven as a vantage point,
drill the Dirt wall directly south. Drill the Dirt wall directly in front of
you. You will then find a Tunnel Scout.
Get into the newly found Tunnel Scout, and travel a ways. In a bit, you will
find a fork in the road, so to speak. Go left. Again, you will find an island.
Land, get your Rock Raider out, and drill the Dirt wall to your right. If you
followed my directions properly, you will have found the lost Rock Raider. If
you didn't, read this over again, carefully.
"A lost Rock Raider has been found."

2h. Breathless
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of mission: Find a Lost Rock Raider/Vehicle
Fun Level: 9/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirment.

Good! Another fun mission. In this one, you have to find 3 lost Rock Raiders,
but don't worry, they are all together. Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, and build
up your base till you have a Level 1 Power Station. Once you have collected
all the materials for a Support Station, teleport down 3 more Rock Raiders to
Once your Support Station is built, and it has power, bring down more Rock
Raiders if you need them. Then, build a Geological Centre. Upgrade it to the
max. You should not have had to go too far to get the materials. Then, if you
haven't already, train an explosives expert at your Level 2 Tool Store.
Then, use dynomite to blow up the Hard Rock wall south-east of your Tool
Store. Blow up the wall you find behind it. Then, drill the Dirt walls on the
right side of the caven. Go all the way to the back of the cavern, and then go
north. You will find a Dirt wall. Drill it, and any walls behind it or right
of it.
You have now found the lost Rock Raiders. You will be teleported out very
soon. Mission Complete!

2i. Frozen Frenzy
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of mission: Get to the Tunnel Trasport
Fun Level: 6/10
# of ECs to collect: There is no requirment.

Well, this mission gets annoying at the beginning, and near the end, but
overall, it isn't that bad. Teleport 5 Rock Raiders down, and drill all the
walls that are in the North-East to East area. Make sure to give all your Rock
Raiders a Laser Beam. Build up your base till you have a Level 2 Power
Then place Electric Fences to guard the 'entryways' to your base. Then make a
Support Station and teleport down 3-4 more Rock Raiders. Construct a Super
Teleport, and upgrade it, and bring down a Chrome Crusher. Make sure you have
enough EC's to power your buildings.
Once you have your Chrome Crusher, bring down a Small Trasport Truck if you
haven't already. *MAKE SURE YOUR BUILDINGS ARE POWERED* Then use your Chrome
Crusher to drill the Hard Rock you should have come across when you drilled
the walls directly east of your base. As you do, Ice Monsters will come out.
Get your Chrome Crusher drilling walls as much as possible. The Ice Monsters
will go past, over to your base. At this point, put everyone esle on perminant
base d. You should have Electric Fences over there, so if your team does not
get all of them, your Electric Fences will. :) You will find the Tunnel
Transport soon.
Take a break then. You will be automatically teleported out of there.

2j. Erode Works
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of mission: EC Collection
Fun Level: 7/10
# of ECs to collect: 15

This mission introduces you to a new concept, lava. And how to deal with it.
You will need a manage your Rock Raiders well or they'll be going everywhere
you don't want them to.

First off, bring down as many Rock Raiders as possible, this isn't an air
mission. There is an ore seam south of your Tool Store, drill it along with
the walls east of the seam. QUICKLY get Power Paths up in the way of the lava
to stop it from getting any further. North-East of your tool store, you will
find a new cavern.
If you haven't, drill the wall there first. Put Power Paths near the 'T' of
lava if you must, and go to the end of the cavern. Drill the walls until you
find another new cavern. Then, QUICKLY, get a Power Path built in the North-
East corner of the new cavern. Then build a new Tool Stor there.
Teleport the old one back up the L.M.S. Explorer, so no one goes back there
again. Find the Hard Rock west of your new 'base', and blow it up. Ot train
someone if needed. You will find yet another new cavern, but this one has a
Tool Store in it.
(I think DataActive Design thought you'd get a Rock Raider to carry some
explosives all the way there. -I- think not. >.>) Anyhow, drill almost any
wall in that cavern, and a, EC will be found. Should be over very soon there.

2k. Water Lot Of Fun
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of Mission: EC Collection
Fun Level: 4/10
# of ECs to collect: 15

Not a lot of fun. That is all I have to say...

So, this level makes it seem like you have to ferry some people and junk to
the other side of the river. Not so. All your 15 ECs are on this island
believe it or not. Just don't build a thing and you'll be fine. :) Srsly
though, you don't need a Support Station or a Super Teleport or a Cargo
In my eyes, the Cargo Carrier effectively does nothing. And I thought the
Hover Scout was useless... Enough ranting, let's get back to work. Simply put,
drill almost everything. Blow up all the Hard Rock you find. You only need 5
Rock Raiders.
Just don't go so far west that you open up that biiiig cavern that goes to the
Docks. I think the Docks only add to this illusion.

2l. Water Works
Air Mission: Yes
Diffucutly: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
Fun Level: 5/10
# of ECs to collect: 20

In the beginning, this mission gets annoying because you are constantly having
to keep your team members from going to shovel a pile of rubble that's a ways
from your base. For the most part though, all you need to do is build a base
with a docks and a power station. All you need is in those walls behind you.
Get the Rapid Rider and train a salior if you haven't already. Then get in,
and head east. When you can't, go north, and then go east a few tiles and
dsrill the wall. Here are the lost Rock Raiders, along with a pile of energy
At this point in time I recommend you get a couple of Small Transport Tucks,
and bring the Rapid Rider back to base, teleport it back to the ship to get
those ECs back. Then it is just a matter of waiting for the ECs to come in.

2m. Rock Hard
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
Fun Leve: 4/10
# of ECs to collect: 20

You won't need to bring anymore Rock Raiders down, so get them to drill ALL
the energy crystal and ore seams to open the floor plan up. Building
positioning is critical here. Teleport pad goes north-west of the Tool Store.
Power Station goes south-west, and Support Station goes east (of the Tool
Your next task is to blow up the Hard Rock north and south of your base until
you find new caverns. Once you have, clear enough space south of your base for
a Super Teleport (and a Upgrade Station if you find the Chrome Crusher too
slow. like me). Bring down the Chrome Crush and drill anything in the area
near your Super Teleport.
You will get the 20 ECs soon.

2n. Don't Panic
Air Mission: Yes, hurry up
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 20

How ironic.

So once again, the Rock Raiders fail at teleporting to the right sector, and
as usual, they felt you have to get them out. Don't you feel so special? I
don't. -.- The path to get to the Tool Store is pretty simple, drill the walls
that can be drilled by hand, except for the first one.
Don't drill the first one on the left, but rather, drill the one further down.
Keep moving constantly. Once you get to base, drill only the energy crystal
seams. Once that's done, dril any loose rock wall to get an EC or 2.
Quickly. :)

2o. Ice Spy
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 25

You don't need to avoid them, really. Just kill them...

Anyhow, let's get to work. Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, equip them with laser
beams. Drill all the ore seams, and the wall south of your base. You'll find a
cavern with Ice Monsters in it. Leave them alone for now. Pick up the Ecs and
begin to bukld your base. I think you get 2 ECs, so you should be able to
build your Power Station.
Now simply turn Action Stations on, and the monsters will all be dead soon.
Drill the walls the the Ice Monnsters were 'guarding', and you should have the
ECs to build and power you Support Station. Bring down 3-4 more Rock Raiders.
Now go east of your base, there should be a couple of walls to drill.
If you didn't get rid of all the Ore Seams, now is the time to do it. You
should find 1 EC initially. Bring down the Small Digger, and if you have
enough ECs, the Small Transport Truck. Drill everything in that cavern, and
the caverns that you find inside that one. With the Small Transport Truck, you
will be done soon.

2p. Split Down The Middle
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 25

The proceedure for this mnission should be to drill until you find each other.
You shoul go up for the first bit and then head towards each other. The base
is on the east side of the wall you first saw separating you. I wish the
earthquakes would have gotten rid of that, too. As for the exact location, it
is east of that wall, as I mentioned.
Look in logical places. Once your there, collect ECs and build the power paths
if you wish. There's an EC in every wall, so you won't be there for long.

2q. Lava Laughter
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 30

I don't get what the big deal is about this mission...maybe its all the
sleeping Lava Mosnters I just froze to death...but that's rather silly...

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, equip them with Freezer Beams, and drill the walls
around you base to get more space for buildings. DO NOT DRILL THE DIRT WALL
NORTH OF YOU BASE THAT'S BEHIND THE LOOSE ROCK. Drill the walls next to your
Tool Store and you'll discover new caverns 1 tile in size. -.-
Oh up your base until you have a Support Station and a Small
Transport Truck. Bring 4 more Rock Raiders, also equip them with Freezer
Beams. Get ready, and drill the dirt wall I told you not to. The truck will do
down and get some of the EC's from the pile. Put Action Sations on, and get
the Lava Monsters frozen.
If you were fast enough, you should have enough ECs to win the game. If you
don't, drill around and kill anything you find. Teleport the Small Transport
Truck if you need the ECs.

2r. Oresome!
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 30

You start with some buildings, this is good. You just need to build power
paths for them. Bring down 5 Rock Raiders. I got rid of the 2 mining lasers
and geological center early to get some free ore and ECs. Once this is done,
build a Super Teleport if you'd like to have the Loader Dozer and Chrome
Crusher. I always do it, so it's up to you.
By now, you should've discovered the lava approaching your base. Unless you
personally enjoy watching the lava destroy everything, pur some power paths up
to stop it from further advancing. Now it's just a matter of drilling
everything. West of the lava is a good place to start, you'll find a few EC
and Ore Seams.
Keep drilling in that area, slowing moving outwards from where you started.
Whether you choose to get vehicles to help you is up to you.

2s. Fire n' Water
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 35

You'd think they could find better places to mine...apperantly not.

Brinf down 5 Rock Raide5rs. Obviously priority #1 is stopping the lava, won't
be hard to do. Won't be hard to do everything else, either. Just drill around
until you find what you need. Make sure you build a Support Station and the
Docks. Bring down the Rapid Rider, make sure the power paths are fine, and get
a Sailor in it.
Teleport everyone else back up to the ship, and head over to the island north
of your base. Once your out, build a power path somewhere and bring down
another Tool Store. Get rid of the old one AFTER you've done this and shut
power for the Teleport Pad off. The bring down some more Rock Raiders and
start drilling.
Anywhere will do. Once you've gathered a couple of EC's from this island,
bring down the Small Digger. (Make sure your Support Station is still running)
Go ahead and drill everything on the island. I did. You'll be done soon, and
if you'd like, you can bring down the Small Transport Truck to get done

2t. Run The Gauntlet
Air Mission: No
Diffuculty: Easy
Type of Mission: Find base
# of ECs to collect: 0

This mission is pretty straighforward. Brab whatever is in front of you, and
ride it to the end of the cavern, drill a wall, and keep going. The only
exception is when you get to the Cargo Carrier, where you hop on and then ride
to the end of the cavern. There's nothing too hard, really...

2u. Air Raiders
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Hard
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 40

I don't like this mission.

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders and fix the power paths, drill around for ECs and
bring a Small Digger and Small Transport Truck down when you have a Support
Station and the ECs for the trucks. Also get 4 more Rock Raiders. Drill
everything that you can on the left side to find the ECs needed to complete
the mission.
It sounds simple, but it takes a long time to do.

2v. Lake Of Fire
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Hard
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 45

I was able to construct my Support Station when the air meter was about 1 MM
long. Then again, my air meter is broken for some odd reason.

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders and immediately drill the wall behind you, make
power paths near the lava that is directly threatening your buildings. Quickly
drill the closer walls, making your way out. Once you do get your Support
Station built, bring down 4 more Rock Raiders and hurry up to drill the
remaining walls.
I brought down a Small Digger and a Small Transport Truck. I recommend you use
them as well. If you find that the reamining wall are on islands surrounded by
lava, bring down the Hover Scout and build Tool Stores on each of the islands
you find ECs on. And get rid of the trucks if you need to.

2w. Back To Basics
Air Mission Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 45

This mission stumps a lot of people, which used to include myself. Now you can
depart from that group of people, thanks to this guide.

Bring down 9 Rock Raiders, equip all of them with LASER BEAMS (Honestly, I
think Sonic Blasters are useless. Besides, what did Sonic ever do to cause
them to create a blaster just for him? :p), if you have a Pilot, don't give
him one. If you don't, choose which one will be trained as one, and make sure
he doesn't get one.
Now drill around the cavern, don't drill the wall south-west of your base just
yet. Once you have a Support Station, drill that wall. Put up electric fences
too. Now, go left once you enter that new cavern you just found. Drill the
last Dirt wall you find before the wall starts going south.
You will find a small cavern with an island in it surrounded by water. On the
island, you'll have enough ECs to finish the mission. Get a Tunnel Scout, get
the pilot you either had at the start or trained eariler into it, and head
over to that pile of ECs.
Once you're there, shoverl the rubble, build a Power Path, and bring down a
Tool Store. Now, have him start collecting the ECs. Once you reach 19, a never-
ending stream of Slimy Slug will start 'invading your base'. Put Action
Stations on and leave it on. (This is why the pilot can not have a laser beam)
Your Rock Raiders will shoot the slugs until they leave. If the pile wasn't
enough, just have your pilot drill around for some more. You should have
enough though.

2x. Hot Stuff
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Hard
Type of Mission: EC Colection
# of ECss to collect: 45

Again, I almost lost this mission because I couldn't build my Support Station
fast enough. And also again, my broken air meter is probably to blame.

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, and equip 3 of them with Preezer Beams. Put Action
Stations on, and let them do their work. You may be able to get the free EC. I
wasn't. Once this is done, drill around your base to get ECs and Ore. Once you
have a Support Station, bring down 4 more Rock Raiders.
Get the Small Digger and Small Transport Truck, get drivers, and start
cleaning this place out. I started at the loose rock wall south-west of my
base, it really doesn't matter where you start though. You won't need to worry
about the lava either. You have no need to drill near it or make Power Paths.

2y. Rocky Horror
Air Mission: Yes
Diffuculty: Medium
Type of Mission: EC Collection
# of ECs to collect: 50

For being the last mission, it is stupidly easy.

Bring down 5 Rock Raiders, drill south of your base, being careful not to
disturb the Rock Monsters north of it. Build up your base until you get a
Support Station, and bring down 4 more Rock Raiders. Make sure to build
electric fences around your base.
Collect materials for a Super Teleport, and bring down the Chrome Crusher.
Also get a Small Transport Truck or 2, depending on how patient you are. Now
send your Chrome Crusher north as far as possible. You'll see a Hard Rock
Wall. Drill it, and everything else behind it,
Look what you found, it's an Energy Crystal Farm! Seriously though, that's a
big pile... Get your Transport Truck(s) and Rock Raiders on it. You'll be done
soon enough, build a closer Tool Store if it makes you happier.

                              Tips and Tricks

Ok, so here are a few things that will help you win a lot faster.

    1. Power Paths prevent erosion. But they do not last forever! You will
need to put 2 pieces of ore on them if they get eroded. Power Paths simply
slow the process down.

    2. A neat little feature. If you select a Rock Raiders or a vehicle (any
vehicle) and press the eye view button from the menu at the side you will find
yourself looking at the place as if you were a Rock Raider. What's more
interesting is that if you use the arrow keys you will move.
If you walk you walk (or drive) up to a wall, you can drill it! I found
this to be a time saving way to get things done. But only do it if there is
nothing going on that requires your assistance. The game does not pause and
wait for you to drill a wall.

    3. Getting the lasers to work.
I have seen a lot of people ask how to use the lasers. It's very
simple, actually. Click on something that has a laser, the click on it again.
The side menu will be disabled and it will turn black and red. At this point,
when you move you mouse, the laser will move in that direction as well.
Point at a wall or monster and it will shoot it. To destroy walls, it
depends on how strong your laser is. For monsters, a bar will come up showing
how much life the monster has left.

Note: I am not going to give any details about the vehicles, enemies, or the
buildings as they are listed in the game manual. If you don't have the game
manual, e-mail me and I'll give you the info.
