Age of Empires 2 (Gold Edition) Review

By Joe Cherry |

The Gold Edition brings together The Age of Kings and The Conquerors in one seamless pack. With an excellent built-in map editor, you have a thousand years and a vast number of choices to make, so there will never be a dull moment. The game will provide hours of entertainment and some tense situations as well. Although the two games together are a lot of fun to play, they do not offer much more than what they each offer alone. This means that they complement each other well, but they do not overly enhance the gaming experience. However, this is just such a fun real-time strategy game to begin with that there is no problem with jumping right in to the fuller version. If you already have one or the other of these, though, it is not worth buying the Gold Edition, because it really is the same game with extra features. Unless of course you really need a new boost to your experience, in which case adding in new technologies and maps will get your brain working hard again like it did at the beginning. Depending on which side you focus on, you can get involved in combat or managing resources to a greater degree with the Gold Edition, so it does give you a bit more flexibility in how you want to play the game.
